The second-generation DragonBall MC9328MXL applications processor's architecture integrates system components on chip to achieve what is claimed to be the industry's lowest power consumption for wireless, consumer applications. An integrated LCD controller promises to lower the overall system clock frequency to further reduce battery stress. Supporting a wide variety of applications, the processor integrates a wealth of features, such as: an ARM920T core; AHB to IP bus interfaces; an external interface module; SDRAM controller; a PLL and power -control module; two UARTs; two SPIs; two general-purpose, 32-bit counters/timers; a watchdog timer and real-time clock/sampling timer; a PWM Module; and a USB interface. An on-chip multimedia accelerator includes a MAC for FIR and FFT operations, supporting MP3 applications, and a DCT/iDCT hardware accelerator for MPEG 4 decoding. Operating voltages are 1.7V to 3.3V for I/O; internal logic voltage ranges from 1.7V to 1.98V. Power management is achieved via a programmable clock synthesizer that uses a 32, 32.768, or 38.4 kHz crystal. The MC9328MXL is available in two packages: a 256-pin MAPBGA measuring 14 mm x 14 mm x 1.3 mm with a 0.8 mm ball pitch and a 225-pin PBGA measuring 13 mm x 13 mm with a 0.8 mm ball pitch.
