Claimed as the world's first single-pin CPU thermal supervisor, the MIC184 requires only a single IC pin to monitor the temperature of thermal diodes in PC CPUs. The chip features local and remote temperature measurement, I2C/SMBus compatibility, a programmable interrupt output and low quiescent current. The device is an extension of the industry-standard LM75 and in pin-to-pin and software backward compatible with it. Added features include the ability to monitor a second, remote temperature; single-device operation over the full supply range; interrupt masking; and a status bit for software polling. The chip can detect remote diode faults and responds in a fail-safe manner.
The device's operating power supply current is just 0.3 mA and the quiescent current in shutdown mode is just 2.0 µA. Two package options are available. In 1,000 piece quantities, the MIC184BM in an 8-pin SOIC package is priced at $1.26 each.
