Made using an advanced 0.18-micron copper wiring technology and representing the latest addition to the PowerPC family of microprocessors, the 750CXe series of scalable processors is targeted for use in desktop computers, as well as in networking, imaging and other embedded applications. The processors attain speeds of 400 to 700 MHz and incorporate a 256 KB, L2 cache, eliminating the need for external SRAM.
Other on-chip features of the new µPs include L1 cache, instruction fetch and branch, fixed-point execution, floating-point execution, and memory management circuits. Power supply requirements are 1.8V for logic and 1.8V or 2.5V for I/O, with typical power dissipation rated at 40W for 400-MHz, 1.8V operation. Price of a 400-MHz 750CXe is $57 each/10,000 and for a 600-MHz µP, $143.75.
