A miniature, two-zone thermal supervisor IC, the MIC280, features highly accurate remote temperature measurement capabilitiesѱ1¡C from 60¡C to 100¡C. Other features include programmable resolution up to 12 bits for the remote zone, six independent channels, I2C/SMBus compatibility, and a programmable thermostatic setting for both local and remote zones. The device, also called the Precision Itty Bitty Thermal Supervisor, is available in 6-pin SOT23 packaging. System reliability is enhanced through such features as locking of critical functions, a serial bus timeout, and reporting of diode faults. Fault queues prevent nuisance tripping. Operating power supply current is 3 mA, while quiesccnt current in shutdown mode is just 5 mA. Pricing of the MIC280 is $1.34 each/ 1,000. MICREL SEMICONDUCTOR, San Jose, CA. (408) 944-0800.
