A new 8-bit flash microcontroller with an advanced LCD driver architecture offers direct connection to LCD modules. The 68HC908LJ12 also features an advanced on-chip real-time clock and a synchronous serial communications interface. Applications for the device include digital cameras, PDAs, portable computing devices, meters, and medical instruments. The controller's LCD driver supports the following configurations: 26 frontplane x 4 backplane; 27 frontplane x 3 backplane; and 27 frontplane x 1 backplane. The driver also includes software programmable LCD contrast control circuitry. Other features of the MCU include 12 KB of on-chip flash memory, 3V operation, serial peripheral interface, 10-bit A/D converter, and 32-MHz PLL. Pricing starts at $4.00 each.
