Groomed for cost-sensitive applications, the MPC8349E family of midrange processors includes the first PowerQUICC II Pro devices with a 64-bit DDR SDRAM controller; dual USB controllers with device, host, and OTG functionality; and two 10/100/1000 Ethernet controllers. The devices also integrate a 64-bit/66-MHz PCI controller, which can be configured as dual 32-bit PCI ports. They are based on an e300 core, a PowerPC core that provides a 32 KB instruction cache and a 32 KB data cache and scales from 266 to 667 MHz. Other processor features include a security engine, four-channel DMA controller, two DUARTs, local bus controller operating at speeds up to 133MHz, and dual I2C support. Samples will be available in the fourth quarter. For prices, call FREESCALE SEMICONDUCTOR, Austin, TX. (800) 521-6274.
