Three ICs intended for electro-optic fiber optic links can operate in systems running at data rates of up to 2.7 Gb/s. The ADN2819 is a multi-rate 2.7Gb/s clock and data recovery (CDR) device, while the AD2811 is a CDR for OC-48 systems and OC-48

Three ICs intended for electro-optic fiber optic links can operate in systems running at data rates of up to 2.7 Gb/s. The ADN2819 is a multi-rate 2.7Gb/s clock and data recovery (CDR) device, while the AD2811 is a CDR for OC-48 systems and OC-48 systems using forward error correction (FEC). The third member, the ADN2830, is an average power controller for CW lasers. Both CDRs provide adjustable slice level in addition to CDR functions. Typical power consumption for both is 540 mW, eliminating the need for heatsinking and allowing a greater portion of the power budget to be used for other functions. The devices can be used in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transponders and SONET/SDH regenerators. The ADN2830 measures a CW laser’s average power and adjusts the bias current to maintain the average optical power specifications determined at factory set up. It can also drive CW lasers that require a bias current between 4 and 200 mA. Prices are $45 each for ADN2819, $37 for ADN2811 and $9.10 for ADN2830, all in 1,000-piece quantities.
