June 1, 2001

Described as the most versatile 1/2 VGA display currently on the market, the Maximiser is said to deliver increased performance compared to other display units of this size but at a price comparable to QVGA displays. With a 6" display, this passive monochrome display is available in two versions: negative mode (STN) and positive mode (FSTN). Other features of the displays include a 125.5 mm x 87.2 mm viewing area, dot pitch of 0.25 x 0.25, dot size of 0.23 x 0.23, CFL backlight that consumes less than 2W over a 10,000-hour life span, temperature range of -15°C to 70°C, and a four-bit serial interface. The STN version has a brightness of over 100 cd/m2 and is transmissive, while the FSTN version is readable in sunlight and is transflective. Both displays can be used in gray-scale mode. Prices start at $70 each/1,000.
