Melding the company's Advanced Super View LCD and proprietary Advanced-TFT small format display technologies has resulted in development of a new family of displays. These displays are said to achieve excellent visibility in any lighting situation, while offering a wide viewing angle, high contrast ratio (300:1), fast response rate (25 ms), and superior color reproduction. The new TFT LCDs are well suited for mobile devices, such as camera phones, PDAs and personal media players that display streaming video content or color images. Produced using the company's proprietary Amorphous silicon and CG-Silicon manufacturing processes, the LCDs range from 1.5", 560 x 240-pixel to 6.5", 400 x RGB x 234 and feature color purity within a viewing cone of 160° vertically and horizontally. With a symmetric viewing cone, the displays can be used in portrait mode for graphics and landscape mode for video, enabling optimum viewing even when held in hand or laid flat on a table. Sampling starts this month, with volume production scheduled to begin next spring. SHARP MICROELECTRONICS OF THE AMERICAS, Camas, WA. (800) 642-0261.
