Data Converter Supports UXGA Resolution And HDCP Standard
Capable of supporting up to ultra extended graphics array (UXGA) resolution, the AD9887A data converter is designed to help state-of-the-art flat panel displays work with analog signals from legacy PCs while at the same time being compatible with the high definition digital signals of newer computer and entertainment systems. The chip bridges this analog/digital divide by packing an analog interface together with a digital visual interface (DVI) receiver on a single chip in support of resolutions up to 1,600 x 1,200 at 60 Hz. The digital interface meets DVI v1.0 specs, ensuring compatibility with LCDs, projectors and HDTVs. The AD9887A also supports the high-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) standard for transmitting and receiving digital entertainment content between DVI- compliant devices. The new data converter's analog interface combines a 170-MHz triple ADC with a low jitter PLL; it also offers variable analog bandwidth control to allow input impedance to be matched with the resolution of the incoming graphics signal. The DVI receiver, in turn, includes support for HDCP with encrypted external HDCP device key storage to heighten product security. In a 160-lead MQFP rated for use over a 0°C to 70°C temperature range, AD9887A-170 MHz is priced at $17.75 each/1,000; 140- and 100-MHz versions are also available.
