An extended bandwidth greater than 2.0 GHz allowing data rates up to 3 Gbps is achieved with the APD-based PGR 20312 differential output optical receiver, intended for OC-48/STM-16 wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) applications. The module features differential output signals with stable bandwidth and group delay over the full temperature and input power ranges. It contains an avalanche photo diode (APD) and a wideband linear pre-amplifier. An internal thermistor is also provided for APD-bias voltage adjustment. Typical sensitivity and overload are -34 dBm and -3 dBm respectively. The device operates in the wavelength range of 1250 nm to 1620 nm. Provided in a 14-pin hermetic butterfly package, its footprint and pin-out are compatible with competitive components, enabling it to be used as a drop-in replacement in existing designs. It is intended for use with standard single-mode fiber, using a pigtail connector.
