Poised for deployment in multimedia and office automation designs, the 32-bit SH7764 microprocessor specifies a maximum operating frequency of 324 MHz and delivers 583-MIPS performance. The device operates over a temperature range from -40°C to +85°C and supports standard operating systems such as embedded Linux and Windows CE. Its SH-4A CPU core features a 32-KB of cache for instructions and 32 KB for data, 16 KB of RAM, and a 108-MHz 32-/64-bit bus for connections to external SDRAM. An on-chip floating-point processing unit supports single- and double-precision arithmetic operations, achieving 2.3 GFLOPS maximum at single precision, and provides hardware support for sine/cosine and vector operations. Peripherals include ATAPI, NAND flash, and memory-card controllers, Ethernet controller, USB interface, a serial communication interface with FIFO, and an I2C interface. On-chip display functions include a 2D graphics engine, LCD controller, and a digital RGB output. Other functions include a serial sound interface, 32-bit timer, watchdog timer, and a DMA controller. Available in consumer (R5S77640N300BG) and automotive-grade (R5S77640P300BG) versions, sample prices are $25 and $29, respectively. RENESAS TECHNOLOGY AMERICA INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 382-7407.
