Said to be the industry's first IrDA compatible transceivers capable of fast-infrared operation from voltage supplies ranging from 2.6V to 5V, these devices offer data rates up to 4 Mb/s across the voltage range and are functional at voltages down to 2.4V for use in applications such as notebook computers, digital cameras and other battery-operated systems. The six devices offer a choice of three packages: side-view (TFDS) and top-view (TFDT) in SMT packages with dimensions of 13 x 5.3 x 5.6 mm or in Vishay Telefunken's BabyFace package (TFDU) for top or side mounting with dimensions of 9.7 x 4.7 x 4 mm. All devices integrate the optical components and mixed-signal control chip needed for fast infrared, serial infrared or carrier-based remote control infrared applications. Transmit and receiver functions are achieved using proven emitter and detector technologies pioneered by Vishay Telefunken. With integrated receiver pre-amplifier and transmitter driver stage, the devices combine the functions of two IC to eliminate a large number of discrete components. Supply current is 3 mA, while shutdown current is 1 mA. A split power supply design allows the transmitter and receiver to be powered independently to further save battery life.
