The LDI (LVDS Display Interface) chipset for flat-panel monitors uses true differential transmission to reduce EMI while maintaining a high throughput of 5.38 Gbits/s. The DS90C387 programmable transmitter and DS90CF388 falling-edge receiver LDI chips are claimed as the industry's first SVGA (single pixel) and UXGA (dual pixel) resolution digital link to flat-panel monitors over 10 meters of cable. The chips offer enhanced features such as low-overhead dc balancing (1 bit/channel) and pre-emphasis, which eliminate problems such as inter-symbol interference distortion and open-the-eye pattern for long cable drives. The chips are designed to sit between the GUI display controller on the desktop and the timing control ASIC on the LCD. They support a wide range of resolutions from SVGA to HDTV and beyond.
