Both synchronous and asynchronous wide area networks (WANs)can be tested at speeds in excess of 10 Mb/s with the one-pound, Model 78 Bit Error Rate Test Set (BERT). The test set has all popular interfaces built-in, including full and fractional T1 and E1, V.35, RS-232, RS-449, RS-530 and X.21. It can be operated from the front panel or remotely controlled via a serial PC interface running Windows HyperTerminal software or from a VT-100 terminal. The unit counts and displays bit errors, bit error rate, transmit and receive frequencies, G.821 measurements including errored seconds, severely errored seconds, degraded minutes, available and unavailable time, and clear-to-send delay. Up to 28 asynchronous and 75 synchronous speeds can be selected. Thirteen standard test patterns including QRSS for T1 and E1, and Fox for asynchronous printer tests, are included.
