The company has introduced what it calls the industry's first practical, electrically-pumped 1.3-µm vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) diode. Also claiming the industry's highest power reported to date for VCSEL diodes, the new device is said to offer all of the operating characteristics necessary to create telecomm and datacomm transmission products, including a continuous wave output power of 1 mW without active cooling, a bandwidth of 2.5 Gb/s, and an operating voltage of less than 2V. Other features include a single-mode symmetrical beam with a convergence of only 18°FWHM.
