Serving to complement the company's line of short-reach transceivers and to establish it as a broad line supplier of enterprise optics, the Extensus family of long-wavelength (1310 nm) optical transceivers is designed to deliver gigabit network links of up to 20 km. The first member of the family is a small form-factor, pluggable 1310-nm transceiver that delivers 1.06 or 1.25 Gbps over single-mode fiber for Gigabit Ethernet 1000Base-LX and Fibre Channel 100-SM-LC-L applications. Targeting metro access and optical Ethernet OEMs, the PL-XPL-00-L13 SFP transceiver offers hot-plug capability, greatly increased port density, and low power dissipation (less than 700 mW). It uses an uncooled Fabry-Perot laser, requires a 3.3V supply, can operate up to 10 km over 9-µm single-mode fiber, and has bit error rate of less than 1 x 10-12. The Extensus product family will eventually include a broad range of extended-reach interconnect solutions at 1, 2, 2.5 and 10 Gbps.
