Promising a rich high-definition experience for notebook PCs and portable devices, the VN896 chipset includes a Chrome9 HC integrated graphics processor featuring a DirectX 9.0 3D accelerator and a 2D accelerator. Also integrated is the latest generation Chromotion video display engine with acceleration for MPEG-2 decoding, plus picture enhancement through adaptive de-interlacing technology and video deblocking, all executed in hardware to offset the processor workload. The chipset also includes LCD panel, CRT, and TV-out support at resolutions up to 1080i. The chipset has passed Windows Vista 32-bit/64-bit basic logo tests and supports the company's C7-M mobile processors as well as Intel's Pentium M/Core, Solo/Core, and Duo/Core2 Duo super scalar processors. It includes two PCI Express ports—one 16 lane and one single lane. Memory options include support for DDR2 667/533/400 or DDR 400/333 with a maximum of 4 GB. VIA TECHNOLOGIES INC., Fremont, CA.
