Technical Innovations Lead To Longer Life Mini CCFLs

Dramatically extended life and improved efficiencies and yields are said to be realized for miniature cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) produced using new manufacturing and design techniques. Lamp life is said to be increased by 125% to 50,000 hr. by, among other things, more completely removing residual contaminants in the tubes and by using bi-metal lamp ends to help conduct the heat away from the emitter. Again, by containing UV emissions to between 200 and 350 nanometers, the new CCFLs inhibit solarization of LCDs backlighted by the lamps. Initially, the new CFX Series of CCFLs will be available in the most popular diameters (i.e., 2.2 mm and 4.0 mm) with lamp lengths ranging from 25 mm to 400 mm.
