Two rugged thin-film transistor (TFT) color LCDs with 8.4-in. diagonal displays, available in both VGA and XGA formats, target non-PC applications requiring top front-of-screen performance and durability. Both feature an LCD panel, driver ICs, a control circuit, and two receptacle cold-cathode fluorescent-lamp (CCFL) backlights with a typical life of 50,000 hours. They provide wide viewing angles of 110° vertical and 130° horizontal. Also, the units feature a reverse scan capability, an operating-temperature range of 0°C to 60°C, and antiglare low-reflection (AGLR) surface treatment. The VGA version provides 640- by 480-dot pixel resolution, a 450:1 contrast ratio, luminance of 400 nits, and a 35-ms response time. The XGA version provides 1024- by 768-dot pixel resolution, a 350:1 contrast ratio, luminance of 300 nits, and 25-ms response time. Both meet the requirements of the industrial, medical, instrumentation, and navigation markets. The VGA and XGA modules cost $440 and $675 each, respectively.
