uPlay LLC has chosen a u-blox GPS chip to power the uPro, its new golf rangefinder. uPlay’s compact uPro aids golfers by providing aerial photography, video flyovers, and satellite tracking on a high-resolution color display. Its SmartView technology also generates views of the course and distance measurements based on the golfer’s location. Joseph Balardeta, president of uPlay, said the company wanted to develop a golf GPS device with advanced features and a compact size. "With u-blox’s state of the art GPS technology, we were able to achieve these goals and deliver outstanding sensitivity, tracking and accuracy," he said in a statement. "The GPS accuracy and low-power consumption of our chipsets makes u-blox the ideal partner for such an innovative handheld device as the uPro," Wade Files, Regional Sales Manager at u-blox, said in a statement.
