Operation at data rates up to 2.5 Gb/s in optical-fiber communications, HDTV and SDH data-link applications is promised by a family of emitter/receiver modules. The two modules allow high-speed optical-fiber communication with low noise and wide dynamic range.Several versions are available of both the receiver and emitter, each designed to serve specific applications. The receiver modules have either Si photodiodes, for operation at 0.8 µm, or InGaAs photodiodes, for operation at 1.3 or 1.55 µm. Both include an internal preamp and handle data rates of either 1 Gb/s or 2.5 Gb/s. Emitter modules consist of a Fabry-Perot laser diode optimized for 1.3-µm operation and also run at both data rates.
