42" Display Eyes High Definition Apps

Nov. 1, 1999

With a resolution of 853 horizontal x 480 vertical pixels and supporting a 16:9 aspect ratio for HDTV-type applications, this large, 42" flat panel display is 5.5" thick and offers vibrant color reproduction using ac plasma technology. Viewing angle is 160° with a 350:1 contrast ratio attained using driving techniques that improve black-level features instead of toning down the white light emitted. The monitor pixel resolution is 1.08 horizontal x 1.08 vertical mm arranged in RGB format with 8-bit resolution. Applications include 3D solid modeling, finite element analysis, and circuit simulation. The display's internal structure can withstand shock and vibration using a shock-mounted compartment that reduces transfer of externally imposed energy. The smart graphics interface engine supports a variety of signals, such as NTSC, PAL, CECAM and analog RGB. The engine is equipped with scaling to take advantage of the full screen width.
