Photo-quality UXGA (1600 x 1200-pixel) resolution is available in a flat-panel display that nearly matches the display area of a 17" CRT monitor. The firm's 15", low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) TFT LCD is said to achieve uniform processing across the display and to overcome the problem of decreased display brightness as a result of pixel pitch reduction that’s required to reach the higher resolution.LTPS technology incorporates a cell composed of polysilicon, a material capable of achieving higher electron mobility than the amorphous silicon found in typical active-matrix and other LCDs. As a result, peripheral driver circuits that control the display can be integrated directly on the substrate, which eliminates the need for externally mounted driver ICs. The result is an overall reduction in component count of as much as 40% compared with amorphous silicon TFT LCDs, and a 95% reduction in the number of connections required in the LCD module. The firm’s LTPS lineup also includes a 4" unit with VGA resolution and a 10.4" model with XGA resolution.
