Low-cost, sunlight-readable, 640 x 480 color TFTs have been developed with 6.4" and 10.4" diagonal screens. These screens feature the company's enhancement film technology, which allegedly increases the panel's brightness and contrast to improve sunlight readability while maintaining its original mechanical dimensions and power consumption. Optional CCT, backlit tubes can be installed increasing the panel's brightness by 300 nits, based on drawing only an additional 7 mA of current per tube. Film enhancements include either single- or dual-film technology applied to the panel's light guide to increase brightness and an optional index-matching film applied to the front surface, increasing contrast in direct sunlight. If this isn't bright enough for a customer's application, then the two tubes can also be mounted in the existing light-guide rails without changing the mechanical outline of the panel. This mounting method lets designers have a single, low-profile housing for multiple applications. Pricing starts at $300 for the dual-tube, 6.4" 400-nit panel and $350 for the similar 10 4" panel.
