Designed to deliver high resolution, performance and contrast, the ENH104XP-450 and ENH104XP-800 enhanced displays target high-brightness outdoor applications. Claimed to be among the brightest high contrast 10.4'' diagonal XGA (1024 x 768) TFT LCDs on the market, the new displays are expected to find use in applications such as handheld tablet PCs and marine navigation and GPS systems. The ENH104XP-450 offers 450 nits with 8W power draw, while the ENH104XP-800 offers 800 nits with 14W. The ENH104XP design uses Index Matching (IM) laminations that absorb high ambient light. Usually, a percentage of the ambient light reflects from the surface of the display, and this reflection—up to 5% of the source light—can flood and wash out displays. With IM lamination, the display is said to absorb up to 80% of the reflected light, enabling it to perform as if it had a bright backlight. However, for the ENH104XP-800 to achieve a brightness of up to 800 nits and to be viewable in all conditions, the display comes with four cold-cathode fluorescent tubes. Measuring 244 x 180 x 11.5 mm, the displays match the mechanical package of lower resolution 10.4'' displays. Pricing starts at $895 for both displays. WHITE ELECTRONIC DESIGNS CORP., Phoenix, AZ.
