A basic system management module (SMM) has been developed that can be programmed to provide various system monitoring capabilities, including for voltages, temperature, current, and cooling fan speed. Measuring only 5" x 1.5" x 1", the SMM can monitor: up to eight points for over- and under-voltage with values set by software; up to four fans; up to three temperature sensors; and a variety of other digital inputs. Outputs include one LED indicator, up to two open-collector outputs, and a one-form C relay output. Status reports and alarm conditions are transmitted via RS-232, Ethernet, and I2C interfaces and displayed via VFD/LCD or LED outputs. All functions, including voltage and temperature range and I/O port function, are pre-programmed at the factory to user specs. Options include a 10/100 Base-T controller, current monitor, remote temperature sensor, and VFD or LCD. The module costs $495 and is also available installed in the company's chassis.
