With the MQ2100 multimedia platform controller chip, mobile handset manufacturers can integrate embedded cameras and color graphics into their products without reportedly having to redesign and re-qualify them. The controller is said to offer a powerful hardware acceleration engine for 2-D graphics, helping increase LCD screen resolution to up to 320 x 240 pixels, with the engine's sole function being to handle and display data on handsets and to help generate sharp, richly colored graphics. And the 64-bit graphics engine with double buffering yields a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels to accommodate game playing and similar applications. An integrated JPEG encoder works in conjunction with the device's video processing engine to encode images with resolutions up to VGA and to handle tasks such as DCT encoding, RLE and Huffman encoding in hardware. MQ2100 consumes less than 5 mW during normal operation. And complementing the chip is the MQ-OSIK operating-system integration kit that contains four functions: 2-D graphics acceleration, initialization, JPEG and video.
