Display modules have been developed for easy integration into portable and battery-powered products. Consisting of a super-twisted nematic (STN) LCD backlighted by a single LED, the modules come in 10 character x 1 or 2 line, 16 character x 1 or 2 line, and 122 x 32 graphic display versions, with 16 x 2 units housed in a package having a 84 x 44-mm footprint and a thickness of less than 11 mm. Each character is formed by a 5 x 8 matrix. The one-chip LED backlights are available in blue, white, green, and amber with a typical power dissipation of only 10 mA at 3.5 Vdc.
