A new front-end power supply has been designed for high-end blade servers, storage, and network equipment using distributed power architectures. The DPS2000 is a 2U, 48V, 2,000W, ac/dc power supply that delivers 1,000W at low-line 110 Vac. It turns out 13W per cubic inch and features active current sharing, hot-swap capabilities, N+1 redundancy, and an I2C interface. Measuring 4.86"H x 2.74"W and 12.80"L, the supply adheres to System Server Infrastructure (SSI) guidelines and also meets strict EMI Class B regulations. The supply is power-factor corrected and boasts an efficiency of 87% at full load, protects against over-temperature conditions, and does not have a pre-load requirement. An adjustable fan speed minimizes audible noise for office environments. A collapsible handle enables quick installation or removal without using tools. Status and alarm indicators display ac failure, power good, and other conditions. The DPS2000 is easily upgradeable via flash memory, which designed to store vital information when the power is off.
