The VS6724 2-Mpixel camera subsystem packs features for the high-volume mainstream camera-phone market such as a 0.25" CMOS sensor, on-chip processing, and a 30-fps UXGA resolution. For those shrinking designs, it comes in both 8 mm x 8 mm x 4.5 mm and 8 mm x 8 mm x 5.5 mm SmOP2 packages with flex-cable attach and socket options. Paired with the device's 30 fps UXGA-resolution output, it also provides a 15 fps YUV output with no compression via an image signal-processing pipeline. A flexible image scaling capability also provides an output for lower resolution displays. Other features include image pan-and-tilt mode, special effects such as sepia, negative, and black and white, and a configurable register set with an I2C interface. Video output formats are YUV 4:2:2, RGB (444 and 565) and M JPEG. Pricing starts at $12 each/10,000. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
