3U VPX Module Supports 2-Tbyte-Plus Capacity

April 3, 2014
The Model 5335/6 system from Elma Electronics integrates up to eight SATA III ports and over 2 Tbytes of onboard capacity in a single 3U VPX slot.

The Model 5335/6 system from Elma Electronics integrates up to eight SATA III ports and over 2 Tbytes of onboard capacity in a single 3U VPX slot. Viewed as a PCI Express Gen2 x8 connection to the host, it provides the link to a storage array with capacities exceeding 8 Tbytes across four slots and data bandwidth beyond 1 Gbyte/s. The storage array system, featuring RAID 0/1/5/10 support, can be configured to maximize bandwidth or provide data redundancy. An onboard controller provides an additional six SATA III backplane ports. Rugged construction handles harsh conditions experienced in defense and industrial applications such as ground, ship, and airborne systems, as well as signal intelligence, engine and automation control, and mission-critical information systems. For example, the convection-cooled systems, using solid-state drives, operate from ‒40 to +85°C, while conduction-cooled versions handle ‒40 to +75°C temperatures. Operating shock measures 40 gs at 11 ms, half-sine wave. Vibration is 2 gs from 15 to 2000 Hz.
