An inside look at a Smart Grid project

Xcel Energy is in the midst of organizing an experimental Smart Grid project in Boulder.

Electricity producer Xcel Energy of Minneapolis is in the midst of organizing an experimental project in Boulder, Colo. dubbed SmartGridCity. Xcel hopes to figure out how to best design interactive systems that it can install in its own electricity distribution systems and then sell to others. The various firms working on SmartGridCity make smart-grid-relevant equipment and software and want to show potential customers how cost saving and useful their goods can be. Industry experts say SmartGridCity may be the most comprehensive Smart Grid project to date.
