Silicon Labs has announced that they will acquire Energy Micro in order to further expand their energy-friendly embedded solutions portfolio.
Energy Micro brings a collection of 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) and the development of multi-protocol wireless RF solutions for a wide range of power-sensitive applications to the table.
With the acquisition, Silicon Labs hopes to continue growth within theInternet of Things (IoT), smart energy, security, portable electronics, and smart grid markets. Reports state that the IoT market alone is projected to top 15 billion nodes by 2015 and 50 billion nodes by 2020.
With both companies leveraging the same ARM Cortex-M architecture, the transition and adoption within consumer bases is expected to run smoothly.
