In collaboration with two OEMs, ON Semiconductor (www.onsemi.com), has established two design labs in Sichuan Province, western China that will focus on the development of power solutions for a range of consumer applications. Working with Kingvon Group (www.kingvon.com) — China's largest set-top box manufacturer — ON Semiconductor has set up a power lab at Kingvon’s office in Chengdu. This lab will focus on extending ON’s power solutions into Kingvon’s set-top boxes, digital cameras, mobiles, printers, notebooks and LCD products. And together with Changhong Group (www.changhong.com.cn), a consumer electronics solutions and services supplier, ON has opened the Changhong-ON Semiconductor Power Joint Lab at Changhong’s headquarters in Mianyang. This lab will enable the two companies to collaborate on efficient power management solutions for LCD TVs, plasma TVs, set-top boxes and air conditioners.

According to ON, the establishment of the joint lab with the Kingvon Group underscores ON Semiconductor’s long-term commitment to provide energy-saving power solutions to indigenous customers in China. This lab will develop power designs around ON Semi’s pulse-width modulation (PWM) controllers and power factor correction (PFC) devices

"Our highly efficient and energy-saving power solutions meet or exceed Chinese and international regulations for power efficiency and standby power consumption. Through the joint lab with Kingvon Group, our proven power management solutions will help Kingvon optimize power efficiency and minimize standby power consumption in their products, meeting consumers’ increasing demand for high performance and rich features," said David Chow, ON Semiconductor vice president of Sales for Asia Pacific.

Meanwhile, the establishment of the power lab in Mianyang is described as a significant step in the ON Semiconductor and Changhong Group partnership, which aims to pursue early opportunities in consumer and energy-saving power applications. ON Semiconductor’s power devices designed into Changhong’s broad range of product lines include PWM controllers, PFC devices and rectifiers.

Changhong is described as a top brand in consumer electronics both at home and abroad with an annual sales volume of tens of million units of color television sets. As the company continues to innovate and move away from its reliance on color TVs, Changhong has recognized that power management is one of the key technology enablers for future success. About 30% of the company’s products are exported to international markets.
