Toshiba America Electronic Components’ three high-voltage three-phase motor drivers feature built-in power management (PWM) circuits for brushless dc motors, air conditioner fans, and pump motors. The TPD4104K, TPD4111K and TPD4112K single chip inverter ICs are manufactured using a high-voltage silicon-on-insulator (SOI) trench isolation process to achieve this level of integration. The junction temperature for each device is rated for 150°C.

The TPD4111K is rated for 250 Vdc output of 1 A. The TPD4112K is a 500-V rated device with a dc output of 1 A, and the TPD4104K is a 500-V rated device with dc output of 2 A. In addition to the power management capability, the new motor drivers feature a three-phase, full-bridge distribution circuit with level-shift type high-side driver and low-side driver, output insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), and built-in fast recovery diode (FRD).

Vcc for the TPD4111K and TPD4112K is 20 V. For the TPD4104, Vcc is 18 V. The current consumed by the voltage regulator is 50 mA for all devices.

Hall amplifier input signals and microcomputer control signals enable speed control of a brushless dc motor connected directly to the driver. Use of a bootstrap system with a built-in bootstrap diode eliminates the need for a high-side driver power supply. The three motor drivers are available in HZIP23 packages, measuring 31.5 mm x 16.1 mm x 5.1 mm thick, with an option for leads facing left (LBR), right (LBF) or down (LB2).

Customer samples of the TPD4104K, TPD4111K and TPD4112K are available now. Pricing for sample quantities is $5.50, $3 and $3.50 each, respectively.
