Buck Converter Suits Digital ASICs

National Semiconductor’s LM2853 is a high-efficiency 3-A synchronous buck regulator. The IC is part of the Simple Switcher product family. The output is suited for ASIC voltage rails. The regulator offers power conversion efficiency up to 95% and is supported with National’s online WEBENCH power supply design tools.

The LM2853 can accept an input voltage between 3 V and 5.5 V and is offered in standard voltage options of 0.8 V, 1.0 V, 1.2 V, 1.5 V, 1.8 V, 2.5 V, 3.0 V and 3.3 V, eliminating the need for external feedback resistors. Other output voltages between 0.8 V and 3.3 V in 100-mV increments are also available. The LM2853 has a fixed switching frequency of 550 kHz.

The regulator is offered in a 14-pin, 4.4-mm x 5-mm x 0.90-mm TSSOP package. It is available now and priced at $2.95 each in 1000-unit quantities.
