Three-Channel LED Driver Provides High Current Accuracy

Oct. 3, 2007
The HV9982 from Supertex is a three-channel LED driver IC designed to provide high LED current accuracy through closed-loop control of the output currents.

Specially designed for applications using RGB LED backlighting or multiple strings of white LEDs, the HV9982 from Supertex is a three-channel LED driver IC designed to provide high LED current accuracy through closed-loop control of the output currents. The device employs a fixed-frequency, current-mode-control architecture that ensures stable operation over a wide range of input and output voltages. Its high-side current sensing allows it to be used in buck, boost or SEPIC configurations while delivering ±1% current accuracy between strings.

Each channel of the HV9982 can drive an LED string of up to 200 V, with efficiency greater than 90%. The IC also includes hiccup mode protection for both open-LED and short-circuit conditions. Available in a 40-lead QFN package (HV9982K6-G), pricing is $3.03 each for 1000 pieces.
