Advanced Analogic Technologies’ AAT1160 synchronous stepdown converter delivers up to 3 A output from a 4-V to 13.2-V input. With its high efficiency (up to 96%) and low (150 µA) quiescent current, the AAT1160 offers power savings in a variety of 12-V industrial applications, especially those using backplanes. The device is also suited to use in portable systems running off two-cell Li-ion batteries.

Other features include a fixed or adjustable output down to 0.6 V, an 800-kHz switching frequency, and a synchronization capability. The regulator also provides soft-start, short-circuit protection and overtemperature protection. Available in a 16-pin 3-mm x 4-mm TDFN package, the AAT1160 sells for $1.82 each in 1000-piece quantities.
