Maxim Integrated Products’ MAX8814 single-cell Li-ion battery charger is distinguished by its robustness and high level of integration. Rated for a single input of up to 28 V, the 4-mm x 4-mm chip integrates a current-sense circuit, MOSFET pass transistor, thermal regulation circuitry, and needs no reverse-blocking diode.

Features: integrates Maxim's temperature and constant-current, constant-voltage regulation circuitry to eliminate overheating during fast-charging and to simplify hardware design; overvoltage-protection circuitry enables charger to withstand input transients up to 28 V; allows fast-charge current adjustment through an external resistor; autobooting circuit monitors the system-booting signal and input-power status, and provides an enable signal to start system operation; soft start; 300 mV dropout at 500 mA
