Rochester Electronics has created a lead-free version of the AM188EM microprocessor. Originally manufactured by AMD, the AM188EM is a higher-performance, more integrated version of the 80C188 microprocessor. The enhanced on-chip peripherals of the AM188EM microcontroller include an asynchronous serial port, 32 PIOs, a watchdog timer, an additional interrupt pin, a synchronous serial interface, a PSRAM controller, a 16-bit reset configuration register, and enhanced chip-select functionality.

By manufacturing the AM188EM in a lead free package, customers are able to comply with today's more strict environmental requirements while still utilizing AMD's proven technology in a wide range of applications, such as disk drives, fax machines, printers, modems, and industrial controls.
