CamSemi's C2283 is a novel high performance Primary Side Sensing (PSS) flyback controller with a unique constant power (CP) mode. C2283 has been designed to offer fast load pull-up of electronic products with high input capacitance, such as modems and other networking devices, but is also ideal for set-top boxes and other high volume, energy-efficient universal input adapter applications rated above 8 Watts.

CamSemi's new CP PSS controller will allow designers to 'right size' their networking adapter solutions for the first time, while enjoying system costs and component counts lower than any of today's more expensive competitive approaches. Previously they had to over specify adapters by adding extra or higher-rated components to ensure their designs were compatible with the 'dying gasp' requirement in the ITU-T G.991.2 standard.

C2283 also offers excellent light load efficiency to help manufacturers more easily meet the challenging standby power requirements of EC 1275/2008 tier two.

The IC delivers many of the same key design benefits as the company's existing PSS controller families including: very accurate voltage regulation across the entire load range allowing use of lower cost components elsewhere in the system; quasi-resonant switching to improve efficiency and reduce EMI; and full featured protection.

This IC is the second of a new class of PSS controllers launched by CamSemi within the last month to offer fast load pull-up for networking applications. C2283 has been specifically designed for use with high capacitance loads that deliver longer hold-up times to ride through mains-power disruptions, whereas C2183 is a general-purpose controller for more typical loads and battery-charger applications.
