Two new series of 4-pin, low AC input current optocouplers with phototransistor output are available from Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. The VOS628A and VOS627A are offered in the compact SSOP-4 mini-flat package with a double-molded construction, which saves more than 60 % on board space compared to a DIP-4 package and improves high-voltage performance compared to co-planar constructions from other suppliers.
With low AC input currents of 1 mA (VOS628A) and 5 mA (VOS627A), the optocouplers released today are designed for programmable logic controllers, industrial control systems, and office automation applications. The devices protect equipment users from electrical shocks and protect microprocessors within these systems from being damaged by voltage spikes.
To provide designers with increased flexibility, the half-pitch mini-flat VOS628A and VOS627A series are available with a variety of current transfer ratio (CTR) ranges from 50 % to 600 %. The devices, also known as opto-isolators, feature GaAs infrared emitting diodes that are optically coupled to a silicon planar phototransistor detector. Their SSOP-4 package provides a 3750 VRMS isolation voltage rating, a half lead pitch of 1.27 mm (50 mils), and creepage and clearance distance of at least 5 mm.
The new series of optocouplers is compliant to RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and conforms to Vishay "Green" standards. The devices are certified to UL, CSA (double protection), VDE, FIMKO, and CQC safety standards.
Samples and production quantities of the new optocouplers are available now, with standard lead times of four to six weeks. Pricing for U.S. delivery in 1,000-piece quantities starts at $0.58 per piece.
