The MAX3353E and MAX3355E USB on the go (OTG) power plus support ICs enter the market as the first devices to make dual-role transceivers USB OTG compliant. Designed to replace a number of discrete components, the device’s primary applications will be portable products - cell phones, digital cameras, etc. Both chips provide the 5V VBUS power, and support for dual-role controllers. Internal charge pumps create a VBUS output from an input voltage between 2.6V and 5.5V. Internal comparators detect VBUS levels for host-negotiation and session-request protocols. The MAX3353E stores this information in registers that are accessible via an I2C interface, while the MAX3355E outputs information on the status-1 and status-2 pins. The MAX3353E also includes the pull-up and pull-down resistors required by USB. Both devices provide ID detection for default host and peripheral assignment. Another feature of both is a shut-down mode current of 0.4 µA. Available in UCSPs and TSSOPs, prices start at $1.21 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
