Squeezing more up time from batteries in portable medical electronics and industrial systems, the TPS61081 high-voltage dc/dc boost converter accepts input voltages from 2.5V to 6V and outputs up to 27V. The converter integrates a 1.3A current switch, input-to-output isolation, and a power diode into a 3 mm x 3 mm, 10-pin QFN package. The device supports single-cell lithium-ion batteries, as well as a 3-cell nickel metal hydride battery pack or a regulated 5V input. Another version, the TPS61080, integrates a 0.5A current switch to support lower output currents. Both converters feature a switching frequency of 600 kHz or 1.2 MHz. Prices for the TPS61080 and TPS61081 are $1.60 and $1.75 each/1,000, respectively. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
