A new family of true dual/quad current-limited MOSFET switches is expected to help designers reduce design time, circuit size and system costs. These power distribution devices, the TPS208x and TPS209x, offer multiple independent channels so designers have the flexibility to meet a variety of power control applications with the least number of components. These applications include power sequencing, circuit segmentation, and auxiliary power switching.
The MOSFETs are said to be ideal for products where heavy capacitive loads or short circuits are likely to be encountered, such as PCs, notebooks and telecom line cards. Features include 2.7V to 5.5V input voltage range, current limit of 700 mA minimum for the TPS208x and 300 mA minimum for the TPS209x, 80 milliohm typical on-resistance, CMOS and TTL compatible enables, independent fault protection, over-current reporting, and undervoltage lockout. Members of the TPS208x and TPS209x family with dual switches sell for $1.40 each/1,000 and come in 8-pin SOIC packages. The same parts with quad switches are $2.36 each and come in 16-pin SOIC packages.
