The LX8816 low-dropout regulator (LDO) provides two independently regulated outputs of up to 1A with a typical accuracy of ±1%. One output is at a fixed voltage and the other is adjustable. The 1A LDO’s design is said to help achieve greater system efficiency by consuming minimal ground current and directing quiescent current to the load. Further, a bipolar output transistor provides the low-dropout voltage at up to full output current. Typical dropout is 1.2V at 1A and 1.1V at 500 mA. Supply voltage ranges from 4.3V to 10V. Safety features of the LX8816 LDO include thermal and short-circuit current protection that operate independently for each output. And output voltages maintain a ±1% accuracy, even with the incorporation of on-chip trimming of the device's internal voltage. Housed in a five-pin S-PAK, the LDO costs $0.76 each/10K.
