Designed specifically to meet the demands of Intel's next-generation Merced processor, the TPS5210 synchronous-buck power controller oversees regulator circuits with over 30A of output current and enables efficiencies of 90% or better. The highly integrated device uses a hysteretic controller for superior transient response. It also delivers extremely high setpoint accuracy of ±1% over the full operating temperature range. When output current increases at rates as high as 30A/µs, the TPS5210 can recover to the original output value in less than 2 µs. The hysteretic control scheme, which is programmable by the designer to an acceptable window around the reference voltage, is said to dramatically reduce overshoot and undershoot caused by load transients. Programmable output range is from 1.3V to 3.5V.
