Dual Op Amp Draws 20 µA Per Unit

The Analog Devices AD8506 features very high linearity while minimizing power consumption in battery-operated devices.

Designed for portable applications requiring high accuracy, the AD8506 low-power dual CMOS operational amplifier from Analog Devices Inc. consumes only 20 µA per amplifier. The device, with rail-to-rail inputs and output, is designed for use in battery-powered patient monitors, remote sensors, handheld instrumentation, and other mobile equipment that requires precision measurement at low voltages.

A novel circuit architecture maintains high linearity by minimizing distortion through its power supplies and its input. Its 105-dB PSR reduces errors caused by power supply voltage variations over a battery’s lifetime. Also, the AD8506 maintains 105-dB CMR, maximizing linearity by minimizing the common-mode-induced distortion often found in amplifiers having rail-to-rail inputs. The device is well suited for use with Analog Devices’ 16-bit, low-power, low-voltage data converters. The AD8506 comes in an 8-lead MSOP. It is also scheduled to be available in a tiny 8-bump wafer-level chip-scale package (WLCSP).
