A family of battery protection ICs for lithium-ion packs features highly accurate voltage detection, low current consumption and wide voltage and temperature operating ranges. The S-8491 Series and S-8231 Series are for single-cell packs, the S-8232 Series is for two-cell packs, and the S-8233 Series is for three-cell packs.All incorporate high-accuracy voltage detectors and delay circuits to balance from one to three cells and provide continuous monitoring to keep the battery's charge/discharge functions within safe tolerances. Configured in small SMT packages, the ICs are suited for use within battery packs or in in-system placement. Applications include pagers, cell phones and notebook PCs.
